Mortuary Temple for Ramses III -
Noted as the last great Egyptian King ruled for 37 years - 1186 to 1155 BC.
During his reign, Ramses and his army successfully repelled three massive foreign invasions - From the South the Nubians - From the North "The Sea People" and from the West the Libyans. With a much smaller army, this superb General & Military Tactician outfought, outmaneuvered, and decimated the invaders.

While he successfully defended and defeated Egypt's foreign enemies, he could not protect himself from his own harem! He was assassinated in 1155 BC - Known as "The Harem Conspiracy"

Wonderful set of that temple. Poor Ramses III and trouble in the harem. Great topic description and great photos of this beautiful temple. We spent two weeks of December in Egypt, but this temple was not on our schedule. So thanks for posting.

Terrific capture of the detail in these scenes...the work that went into constructing these temples is mindboggling!!

Superb images! On the 5th image, left side, you will find some of the Sea Peoples wearing feathered helmets. The Egyptian texts give us nine different groups, the most prominent being Peleset, better known as Philistines. Ramses III settled these peoples in the land still named after them "Palestine". This is one of the most vexing historical problems of Egypt, the identity of the Sea Peoples. In my opinion Peleset, written as PLS, derives from the Greek Pelesgians which means the Sea Peoples and refers to the Cycladic civilization.
