Erie Lackawanna Engine & Caboose 1967

Many can recall the cabooses at the end of the train.
This image was taken in Hackensack, NJ in 1967
on the Erie Lackawanna Line.

Where have all the cabooses gone ??? I miss them from the back end of trains from my youth.

The decision for trains not needing cabooses was done when electronic reporting of the
safety systems could be done without funding them. What is interesting is a quote from
one of the stories about the cost of a caboose was eighty thousand dollars.
Think of it in these terms that a caboose cost near the price of a Ford Lightning F-150 pickup truck.
Do a search on line "Why did trains stop using cabooses".

I know why the railroads got rid of cabooses, but I don't like that. I will not run my HO model trains without a caboose.
