For all who are still working.

In a related story... years ago the company I worked for was using a subcontractor for some tasks. One of the subcontractor's employees had a heart attack... as soon as his boss could get in to see him in hospital, he notified him that he was laid-off.

That is so true, and if you think age discrimination isn’t real, just wait until you pass 50 or 60 and have a 30 year old manager - that will provide the career ending heart attack.

Age discrimination in the work place has never been a problem for me (luck? maybe) I like to think it was because my younger bosses knew I could do work they couldn't or didn't want to do and I would take their BS.
If the B/S got to be too much I moved on.
Once my boss told me he could fire me because I told him to fix the bus himself, I just smiled locked my tool box and went home. He called while I was on my way home and as if I was coming in in the morning, I told him if I wasn't fired probably.
I was hired for my last job stage 72, to maintain a fleet of 12 trucks, trailers and medium duty construction equip. for a landscape construction company.
I left my previous job because the mgr. was scared to death of management and out next state inspection was going to a disaster! and I didn't want any part of it.
I worked five years, Got up one morning and decided I was ready to retire, I told my boss when he got to work , he ask when as soon as you find my replacement or 30 days which ever comes first.
I was very surprised they gave me a retirement party and a bonus.

I had a friend who had done something to really upset our manager. My friend told him, " If you're going to fire me, do it now because I'm not going to drive all the way in here tomorrow just to get fired". They didn't fire him.

I enjoy the story I recently read about a group said that they could Never work for their boss after what he said to them.
What was said? was asked.

They replied, "He said You're Fired"!

I retired right before sixty and I would run circles around guy who were 20 years younger than me.these guys were drinking all kind of power drinks to make it through the day. They were drinking red bull like no tomorrow. I never took that stuff.i would ask them what the hell did they have to take to make love to their wives. They never answered me.

I like the similar drawn cartoon where the Boss states "By the way Jefferson I approved that vacation time you requested. It starts tomorrow."

Try being a cutting edge software developer in your 60's. I won't soon forget a kid 40 years my junior saying "do you really still write computer software? Why?"
