Sure, one hand on the mouse, one hand on the keyboard.

In the late sixties, there were those in our B/W photo 101 class that did use tints (paints) of some sort that colored their portraits.

I never tried it. Not sure what kind of coloring materials they had access to.
There are still a few old photo studios that did that. I'm sure you can check on-line with one of the older photo studios. It could be a lost art.

Good luck.

Maybe I approached this all wrong. I'm cleaning out my photo/ hobby workroom and while doing so I found a book some paints and a couple of boxes of penciles for handcolloring photographs. Guessing it struck my fancy at one time ; however. they got burried and forgotten. Now that We're getting ready to downsize or die I'm fiding al kinds of "good intensions". I'm simply trying to find out if anyone still does this process or if their might be a resale market for it.

Thanks for ALL your help. It's a legitimate question I guess I was expecting a respectful answer.

Don't jump too soon.....

He's right... It can all be done now with a computer, quickly and efficiently.
Most studios offered the colored B&W prints, like for senior pictures, family, and wedding shots.
But it's so much simpler to use an editor now.

So I would guess no, save a diehard or two, that may do it for nostalgic purposes.

Did it often years ago, using Marshall's Photo Oils. Had to use non resin coated b/w paper if I recall, it was great fun! And, you should know by now that getting respectful answers here is a bit of a stretch, sadly.

I used to hand color, and I'm pretty sure some still do with paints, dyes and pencils, but now I find doing it in Photoshop just as satisfying without the mess.

No disrespect intended. Perhaps a little humor. It's what popped into my head when I read your post.

Since the invention of digital photography, photo's have been edited with digital editors. Not much use for hand coloring photo's for over 25 ears now. Although for sure some might do it, but not likely any commercial value in it.

I reckon that's why you asked the question, so sorry if you were offended by my mild attempt at humor.

I took it as reality, with a slight tinge of humor.

With software doing it so much quicker and usually better than by hand.
I have had people do some for me in a matter of minutes.
So by hand it would be time consuming and purely a labor of love.

where, or how, can one get a print made that can even be hand colored? seems the pigments, dyes or whatever used on the print must be solvent proof to the solvents used in the paints.

Have to look for someone who prints on non-RC photo emulsion paper.
Costco used the photographic chemical process, but I don't know if it was on RC paper or not.
