In Greek mythology the nymph Daphne was pursued by Apollo, the archer god. To protect her from Apollo's advances, Daphne’s father turned her into a laurel tree.
Daphne in Winter Founded in 1930 by local businessman Max Adler, the Adler Planetarium is a public museum in Chicago, dedicated to astronomy and astrophysics.
Adler Planetarium Images shared in this post all date to January and February 2022 in Chicago using an old EOS 1v film camera and a modern EF 24-105mm f/4 IS II lens. All of the multipe film types were expired, and all but one image also uses a yellow filter. Details of each image are available from the URL links to Flickr for each image.
Chicago in winter Founded in 1877, Chicago's Bohemian National Cemetery was originally intended for persons of Bohemian birth or extraction, Bohemia being the westernmost and largest historical region of what we now call the Czech Republic. The Kingdom of Bohemia dates to 1085 in central Europe. Beginning 1804 the kingdom fell under the control of the neighboring Austrian Empire. There was a lot of migration of Czechs to Chicago in the 1800s. Eighteen Chicago / Czech veterans of the US Civil War are memorialized.
Bohemian Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument Magdalene is from the same sculptor as Daphne, above, from Dessa Kirk. She sits in a small garden where the Ida B. Wells Drive (formerly Congress Parkway / old Route 66) crosses Michigan Avenue, just before terminating at the Buckingham Fountain.
Magdalene in WinterCloud Gate, aka “The Bean”, is one of Chicago’s most popular sights. The monumental work of art anchors downtown Millennium Park and reflects the city’s famous skyline and the surrounding green space.
The Bean in Winter Pritzker Pavilion serves as the centerpiece for Chicago's Millennium Park and is the home of the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and the Grant Park Music Festival, the nation's only remaining free outdoor classical music series.

Nice shots, Paul. Having gone through Navy recruit training at the RTC not far from Chicago, I can testify that it’s as cold it looks. Thanks for sharing. B-r-r-r…
Thank you 47greyfox! We've been rather mild this winter so far. This morning there's a crusty 1-inch of snow and that's pretty much the most we've add all winter so far. Where last year, I'd been out lots of times in lots of snow events.

Nice! I have fond memories of visits to the Adler Planetarium in my youth. I wore my parents' legs out there one day! I was fascinated with space.
I bought my first "real" camera, a Nikkormat FTn, at the old Altman's camera store in Chicago in '69, during an extended family vacation there.

Thank you Bill! Altman's and Central are not too far a walk from what we now call the Museum Campus. In fact, with the removal of some the commuter train lines and a reroute of Lake Shore Drive in this area of Chicago, the walk is more direct and safer with pedestrian under and over passes between the Loop and the campus on the shores of Lake Michigan.
Very interesting as usual professor:-) My wife and I been to many cities in the states, but never to Chicago. I don't know why...I understand it's a great place to visit. Maybe in the next year or two. I did pass through when traveling coast to coast and recall a Wacker Drive.

Thank you Ray! When you watch the 2nd of the recent Batman movies, the one with Keith Ledger as Joker, all that chase in the underground street tunnels is our "lower" Wacker Drive. There's an upper Wacker too that follows the river from the lake to past the Sears Tower.
Beautiful set Paul. I spent a November and December in Chicago training for a new job. Never been so cold in my life
Thanks for the tour. Well done!

Thank you John, Jack, Jack S! We're heading into the 40s this week after a week around 10F. Should see plenty of shorts around town.
Another great series, Paul.
