But OUTSTANDING, not so much. With or without the "built in gimmick", these are very good, no apologies needed!
I don't know how big the sensor is on that camera, but with my D850 I depend on cropping ability frequently, even using a 200~500 zoom. I don't use gimmicks for more reach. I do use feet when possible, but 46 mp allows for a lot of cropping.
Please don't sell yourself short. These are images to be proud of.
Yes, I would be very surprised to see a Golden Eagle in Missouri!

It's ind of funny because on the original day that I was going to post these, another gentleman just seconds before did post some outstanding Bald Eagle (don't rub it in) pics. As for the electronic 1.4-2x electronic zoom, I only played with it just a little bit when I first got the camera several years ago. It has a 24mp crop sensor. I am impressed. A few years back, my employer gave some of us D750's which as you know, are full frame. The lens they gave us was a Sigma 18-250. It just so happened that I had the same lens for my Sony. One day, I set up the tripod in my front yard to do a comparison. Across the street and a few houses down, a neighbor had an ADT sign near their front porch. That sign had small writing at the bottom. I don't remember what settings I set them both at, but the Sony took a much sharper and cleaner photo and when enlarged on the monitor, I could read that writing clearly, whereas I could not with the Nikon. That was strange. I double checked those settings and they were exactly the same. I will tell you, I fell in love with that Nikon. About a month later, my company took them back from us. I guess the exec's wives found out about them and probably wanted them.

Oh, and I could care less about that stupid jpeg vs. raw issue. I could care less. I can resolve issues in post using lightroom and photoshop. Equally. That all starts with the camera setting. By law, at work, I can only shoot in jpeg.

These are definitely not the best, but one must understand the circumstances under which they were taken. Here is the story:

I was on holiday over Christmas. My wife suggested that we go for a ride in the country. So, obviously I had to grab my camera (Sony A77ll) and a couple of lenses; One of which is a Tamron sp 150-600. during the drive I had a much smaller lens attached. My wife asked me why I am bringing that monster lens? My response was, "what if we see an eagle or something?".

Well, as it happened, we were diving south on Missouri hwy 13 just south of Warrensburg, Missouri when we rounded a curve.

They are terrific...I don't know why you say they aren't the best...

Thanks! Just look at some of the posts of Bald Eagles here that others have posted. That is why I made that comment.

Thank you very much, Samantha! I just thought they were average at best. I am not being modest. I am actually a very good photographer. I guess I must have my own gold standard. Lol.

Nice images…but even with a 600mm, 2x, and 46MP I’m kinda questioning the 800 feet away, that close of a crop, and the IQ that’s there.
That camera is 24mp with a crop sensor. It is an "A"mount. I was definitely at least 800 ft. away. I was pleasantly surprised.

Her is a pic I took at an airshow back in September when I first got the lens, totally untouched, complete with sensor spots and no teleconverter. Since then, I read the manual and figured out how to use the lens properly.

I disagree that one must understand the circumstances. A photo must stant on its own.

Further more, I find that these images stand on there own quite well! Good job.

Success often comes to those prepared. Nice shots :-)
Oh, I was worried alright. I knew that since he was perched rather close to the road and by knowing that he noticed our car stopping, he would not be sticking around very long. I am lucking in that I am very familiar with my equipment and was able to set up quickly. I used the door as the camera rest and my wife knew to shut the engine off so as not to create vibration. I love that girl. I almost forgot; Thank you very much!

Great shots! but please explain: "I had to put the camera in jpeg mode (that part does not bother me) in order to make the teleconverter active. I put it in 2x and fired away." never have heard of this procedure, before.
Easy. Happy to oblige. The Sony A77 ll is a crop sensor camera. As in any other advanced camera, it has a ton of settings, most of which I don't use. I even joke that I could super glue the external settings knob to manual mode. I honestly do not think I have ever used any setting except manual mode. I am not kidding. Back to your question. There are a few features on my Sony that will not allow those functions to work while shooting in raw. Why not? I can not tell you, I do not know. Since I wanted to get as close of a shot as possible at the distance I was at, I wanted to try using Sony's built in, electronic teleconverter. When one tries t shoot in raw while having that function turned on, A warning pops up saying that it can't operate that function. I knew this. So, I quickly set it to shoot jpeg and adjusted my shutter speed, aperture and ISO. Since the lighting was good, this was easy to do quickly. As for my comment about "that part does not bother me" I was simply trying to say that I am experienced enough ( I am not the greatest photographer by any means) that when I am shooting in jpeg I have no problems in post because I make all the adjustments needed (including white balance) in camera so as not having to make any major adjustments while in post processing. I also know photoshop well enough that I can overcome missed settings such as the white balance being way off. This is problematic if one has a real bad white balance in a photo and this is very difficult to fix in post if that photo was shot as a jpeg. Whereas a photo shot in raw with a terrible white balance can be fixed rather easily in post because one has more information to work with. I hope this helps.
