I am unable to understand why the birds are not visiting this part of the Everglades as they have done in the past. The rangers tell me that it is the high water levels but I have been to Shark Valley before with high water levels and the birds have been plentiful.
My son and his family visited a week ago prior to this visit, they took the trolley and he told me he saw plenty of birds.
I did not see as many tourists as I have in the past either. This time of year the place is supposed to be packed. I have not visited that part of the park toward the south from here near Florida City. I have not been to Flamingo either, the lowest southwestern part of the Florida Peninsula and a very popular spot for camping and fishing. The Great Blue Heron and the Snowy Egret, two frequent visitors to the park were nowhere to be seen. The turtle was near a pipe that brings water to the Everglades I guess looking for a meal.
For these images I used my Nikon D7000 with the 70-300 f4.5-5.6 AF-S, VR, G lens. No tripod this time. I will be heading toward Florida City next week hoping to have better luck.
