I have made over 200 projects with Shutterfly (calendars, books, cards, photos) and always have waited for their sale. Only a couple of times has there been a problem with the printing and they immediately replaced the order. Customer service has always been very helpful. Try this phone number- 888-225-7159 for Shutterfly Customer Service.

I have used Snapfish to do my annual friends and family calendars each year, always with a minimum of 50% off. Their shipping cost became so ridiculously high about 3 or 4 years ago that switched to Costco. Sadly, I may have to go back and watch for sales of more than 50% off.

I've use Shutterfly for years and been quite happy. I haven't printed photos very often though. I have done a few cards but for years have done photo books, calendars and magnets. I like them a lot. I like the quality of their work. I also like it's flexibility and the opportunity to create projects on my own. I do a lot of editing or changing of the original project, using the Advanced Editing feature. I have learned more and more over the years and come up with a variety of layouts, etc. Shutterfly isn't perfect (their are some features I wish they had or that they hadn't changed but for the most part, I am quite happy. I did some work with Walgreens a couple times but I felt the quality just wasn't as good.

I just placed my first order with Amazon. I know, go figure. Prices are not bad, free freight and it looks like about 10 days delivery. We shall see!

I hope you get a chance to report on the results. Looking forward to hearing about it.

I transferred my Costco account photos to Shutterfly. I was curious how their pricing compared. I used a photo that I had made into a 30x40 canvas print. I checked a 20x30 print and got a message that the photo may be blurry. Same thing for an 8x10 print. I got on the chat line. Irene said it was due to compression. She wrote that nothing could be done about this. I wrote that it seems I would be wasting my time with Shutterfly. She promptly disconnected our chat. It appears my full resolution Costco account photos that printed and looked great were turned into low resolution photos that are now useless.

I am surprised that you have had bad experiences with Shutterfly. I have been using them since they started and find them to be probably the best customer service companies I have ever dealt with. No, I am not related or connected to them in any way other than being a user. We use them every year for our holiday cards. I use them to make gift calendars and other photographic items. I find their "chat" feature to be excellent. Had to use it yesterday and the chat person was very helpful. They have always stood behind their products and have been quick to replace anything I might have been unhappy with.

Maybe you weren't a customer of Costco. I'm basing my disappointment with Shutterfly with my Costco experience. Great pricing (that Shutterfly can't match), great service, quality products (that Shutterfly won't match). NOPE, I stand by my initial comments.

One thing I didn't mention earlier was that I never used Costco other than for printing a few metal pictures. And I didn't use them to store my pictures. The reason I joined Costco through Shutterfly was only to possibly get even better deals through the use of Shutterfly.

In many respects, at least for photographers, Costco made a mistake by dropping the in-store photo processing and now the online photo center. In this and in other ways Costco is becoming less and less important as a place to shop - I say that having been a Price Club/Costco member since the late 1980s.

I doubt Shutterfly will be my 'go to' place for my photo needs. Not sure who will be but I have tried the local Walgreens and they did a rather nice job.

For photographers, I agree with you. But, Costco's stock price is up a little over $100 year to date. They know what they're doing to make money. And print photography was probably a resource vacuum. It was equipment, floor space and personnel intensive. Given the likely very tight margins coupled with competition from other sources, they made a decision to hand the photo reins over to Shutterfly for a piece of the action. I've not seen data, but if it were a big money maker, I'd bet they'd still have a photo section. I have not seen cameras in the stores, other than go-pro kits, in a long time. That too makes sense...purchases, returns, stock maintenance, competition from other stores, variety of models, etc. They'd have to chose just right as to what cameras to keep in stock. their I am still in a bit of mourning over them discontinuing their spicy polish dogs.

I do not often use Shutterfly, but have for various specialty items. But when I do, I do not have problems with the website. It possible that the website had a glitch then...When I need a print quickly, I do the Walgreens thing.

Hint to all Hogs: I typically use Firefox as my browser of choice. However, MS Edge has a feature that automatically finds digital coupons on checkout. I often save 50% on Walgreens print photo orders just by using Edge.

I believe everyone’s shipping costs went up because the shipping firms wanted to make money too

Rumor has it that they also sustained increased costs.
