One painting - two painters: Peter Doig and Peter Doige. This is an amazingly ridiculous story. Peter Doig refused to say that he painted a painting, so the museum sued him.

Jerry didn't provide the right link.
I found this article about the lawsuit. It was over in 2016.

I would think an artist should have the right of whether or not to sign his/her work !!!!!at the time the work is produced or years later!!

In this case there are actually two artists with the same name.

One is seriously famous...the other was a jail bird.

The parole officer made the error...no surprise there.

The painting was signed "Peter Doige 76" not exactly his name which is Peter Doig.

Makes no difference
The Famous artist should not have to defend Himself !! even IF he had produced the art!!
What It boils down to is some A##hole trying to benefit from another's work while he is still alive!!.
I hope The PO had to pay all of the defendants legal fees.

Thanks for that. I usually have problems with Ctrl-C. I have to tap the C several times or hold it down for a few seconds. Maybe I need a new kbd.

Although it was over in 2016, the video say the article was published recently. The video explains it very well.

Yes the artist prevailed but in this case he didn't make the painting. I wonder if he made the painting could he deny that he made it? Could the prison guard win if he did make the painting?

That's what the lawyer mentioned, but I don't think he could deny it. If the gallery paid $1 million because it was done by a famous artist, and then the artist falsely denies having painted it, that would make the painting worthless.
