I took these on a recent trip to Fla. Went to a place I will call a nature preserve for a lack of a better term. Hummers are seen occasionally there. Well, lady luck had me on the list. We spent almost 1 1/2 hours shooting sitting hummers through sticks, tons of hummer BIF's, etc. After the action cooled we were discussing how great it was and I took the last photo from the bench we were sitting on just because it looked good. I used a Nikon D500, a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 lens with a 1.4 teleconverter. Since I put the full frame lens on a crop sensor, the 70-200mm became a 105-300, add the tc and the effective range was 147mm-420mm at f/4. Iso was 4000, ss=1/8000 to freeze the wings. All hand held. Please check the downloads.
COJ, Thanks for your post! The details of how you took the images is appreciated. Number 6 with the red sage is my favorite.

You're welcome. One of the goals here is to educate and share information, when I was starting out I received it here so I am happy to pay back my debt.

Thx!! When I got to the location and saw the first little hummer zipping through the air I thought to myself "How on God's green earth am I ever going to get a single focus point on THAT!!!". It worked out ok, not all of them were super fast.
Beautiful set, I like the last one
I have been surprised at how few Hummingbirds I see in Florida! I thought there would be tons of them. What/where is the reserve? Beautiful photos although some of them look to be heavily processed!

This is at the Celery fields near Bradenton / Sarasota. Actually there was minimal editing. I processed them through Topaz noise elimination and their sharpening tool because I used such a high ISO to get the shutter speed I wanted. After that all I did was control the light, color & contrast, and not much of any of those. I don't use photoshop or light room, all of the edits are done with free Nikon software, NX Studio. The pix looked pretty good right out of the camera. If they don't, I usually delete them.
