Going to London/Rome ins May then a cruise. Anyone suggest the best lenses? Have a 70/200 but it's too heavy, 18-135, 50, 28-300. Any suggestions on best things to shoot?

I haven’t been on a cruise since I got out of the Navy, but I don’t remember much to photograph out on the ocean. I don’t think there would be much need for a long lens in London or Rome, so I think the 18-135mm and the 50mm will be all you need. You may want to purchase a fast 35mm (or 28mm) to take instead of the 50mm for interior shots.

I shoot art, architecture , people and landscapes. The 18-135 will be most used. It covers narrow streets and large buildings.

If I’m getting pictures of framed art in museums, I now take a second shot of the sign alongside the art. It saves a tremendous amount of time, compared to taking notes on a note pad. And, the info is handy, on the next frame. Even more convenient when the info is in a foreign language. I can translate it later.

You don’t need to save these signs in RAW, jpegs are quite adequate and save memory space.

If those were my lenses and I wanted to travel light I would take the 18-135 and the 50.
I only took an 18-200 and a 50 to Iceland.
I used the zoom for virtually all my shots.

The focal range of your lenses implies that you shoot APS-C. The 18-135mm will be the lens you use most--you could leave the others at home. 18mm on APS-C (27mm full-frame equivalent, a little more if you shoot Canon) in my opinion is not wide enough for general travel, and certainly not for a European city. So I would recommend adding a wider lens so you could cover the 12-16mm range (APS-C) as well.

You have a 28-300 lens in your arsenal. It's all, and everything, you need for travel if you want to travel light (a relative term). It also depends on what you shoot whether it is the correct choice. It's the ONLY one I use 95% of the time on my D750 only taking other lenses - wider than 28mm or longer than 300mm when I know I will specifically need them. The low light capabilities and ability to use higher ISOs takes care of those stickier situations.

BTW, in Rome you will not be allowed to shoot in many churches and museums. Certainly not all, but many.

28-300 is all that you will need, and don't forget the polarizing filter.

I've been to Rome recently and had an 18mm F1.8, 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 and a 24-105 mm F4.
I also took an 85mm F1.8 for portraits, which I used little.

24-105 mm F4 - 47%
18 mm F1.8 - 32%
20-60 mm F 3.5-5.6 - 16%
85 mm F 1.8 - 2%

So no wide angle is needed?
28 on APSC is not wide at all.

Most cruises only stop in each port for like a day and move on .
Take the most versatile. 28-300 etc. unless you have 2 bodies I would worry about anything else.
If the 50 is fast maybe take it along just in case for indoor shots.

It has likely been said already but bear with me.
It seems that your camera is a crop sensor. Truly you need a wide angle lens for sites and sights in London and Rome. If your budget allows and it is not expensive, add a Sigma wide angle lens 10mm-20mm. Great lens! If you like a long lens, I think that the 18-135 is sufficient. You can use it at 50mm. Your 50mm becomes a 75mm on a Nikon and is typically a fast lens, good for low light. It all depends upon what you like to shoot.
Personally, my travel lenses are a 10mm f/2.8 fisheye, 14-30 f/4 and a 28-75 f/2.8. I shoot with a full frame camera.

In my experience, there's not a lot of need for a long lens in a city like Rome. I'd go with the 18-135. I was in Rome recently, and almost all photos were taken with the short end of my zoom.

I lived in Rome long ago and cruised the Greek islands last year. The 18-135 should serve you well in Rome and on port calls; the 28-300 on occasion when at sea and nearing ports. On my recent cruise I relied on a 28-200 lens and also used an iPhone pro max. Got some of my best photos with the pro max (won a shipboard photo contest with one of them).
