@ San Simeon, CA.
The Hearst Castle is up the hill in back of this beach, but you'll have to use your imagination.

Less than a hour from where I live. Have many photos of those critters. Very interesting to listen to them verbalizing. As in, quite noisy! I'll see if I can find some interesting shots that I taken there.

A "few" seals at the seal rookery on the beach near Hearst Castle. Thousands of the seals breed here in the fall thru spring.

Wow, amazing. Is it dangerous for you being close to those creatures? 8-)

Elephant seals are curious mammals. To me they sound like a drain that is partially clogged and sucking air. Used to live in Paso Robles, less than an hour away from the beaches they hang out on. I have lots of photos of them, but they're all on film.

BMac, I use the extreme telephoto of my ultrazoom (Lumix FZ28 - 18x optical) to get close. The area where the seals are is blocked off to humans so that they can't get close enough to get hurt. As big as some of those bulls are, they can move amazingly fast when provoked.
Patsibley, I live in Atascadero now, but lived in Paso for 11 years. And you're right. That's just what they sound like! You have to hear it to believe it!
