Has anyone used the free photo editor "Irfanview"? I found it and am looking at it and it seems to be a reasonably decent editor. It is, of course limited but it should not have much of a learning curve and seems to do most of the basic editing that someone like me would want. The main problem I see with it is a serious lack of documentation.

I have used Irfanview primarily for its flexibility in printing. No instructions, just poked around til I found my answer. I found it to be very intuitive. Can't beat the price!

Yes, I have used IrfanView for several decades. It is a very powerful editor even though it may look simple.

I have used IrfanView since the '90s. It is Windows only (no Mac version) and an excellent viewer for images. It has fairly basic editing capabilities, but lacks sophisticated capabilities present in many of the editors used by photographers. It has a few bells and whistles that are very useful such as the ability to produce contact sheets and add text to images.
I use Adobe software for most editing, but IrfanView is the default viewer on my Windows laptop for image files. It is fast loading and will read a lot of different formats. There is a set of plugins available on the website irfanview.com and they are worth loading.
A help file is available. I think you can get to it by pressing the f1 key (I'm on a Mac right now so I can't check).
Somebody gave me my first copy of IrfanView on a 3 1/2 inch floppy over 20 years ago. I use it primarily to cull my images after downloading to a folder on the hard drive.

Irfanview is a great program, but the only editing I do with it is removing unwanted things in the image. It's easy to do that with Irfanview. If you get it, download the plug-ins, too. Pressing I and E will give you info.
I have used Irfanview for many years. Now, I mainly use it for reducing the size of individual images, but it is useful for other things as well.

Right! Ctrl-R and enter some numbers.
I have used Irfanview for MANY years and would hate to have to be without it. It may not do everything but it does most of what you need, I made it my default so my picture is in it, ready to be tweaked the minute I open the picture.

Irfanview is the editor I use for initial screening right after a photo trip. It is quick, easy, and can do quite a few functions. After I go through and remove any true photo failures (usually about 30-50 %) I sort the images into logical groups. Then I move over to Lightroom for final editing.
I donate to the author annually as the program is well worth it.
