Not long ago I attended a presentation by a photographer who discussed shooting in manual mode with exposure compensation. When I asked if EC wouldn’t be a mute adjustment in manual mode he claimed simply “it works”. So my question is can EC correct selected manual settings to other settings?

Yes or no. In my multi brand set up, I find that it depend on the brand.

Youve not stated your brand and it doesnt matter. For your own whatever brand you should have already answered the question on your own. Takes about 10 seconds. Puzzles me why you asked the crowd, who each will tend to believe that the behavior of their brand is the industry norm. There is NO industry norm.

Now that you know and I know, lets sit back and watch.

Sometimes nothing, sometimes shifting the meter readings. It varies. Theres no standard across the brands. The user can try it and find out directly in a matter of a few seconds.

Either way, if youre suggesting there no purpose to this thread, then we agree.

FWIW the advantage of "no effect" is that if EC dial gets accidentally off center then no harm done. Not caring to remember which brands are at risk, I treat all of them to the precaution illustrated below.

No. That was easy.

Does it correct exposure in any brand?

Sorry to upset you so, but are you answering questions that weren’t asked?

On my camera EC in manual just is how I change shutter or aperture which in manual is what you are doing.

I agree. I can’t understand how it would adjust any manual setting after they are set, which is what the speaker I heard was advocating.

The only way EC works in manual mode is if the ISO is set to auto, then the EC adjusts ISO.

I agree that it would adjust ISO in THIS scenario, but once ISO is switched from manual to auto, ISO is no longer controlled manually.
