Heading to Joshua Tree and Anza Borrego next week for some photography work.

I have done some web research and watched a number of You Tube videos and prepared a list of sights to checkout. I would appreciate some UHHer's experience and recommendations for areas to see in these two parks.

Thanks for the input/feedback.

Seems a little early for the most active season -- end Feb/Mar thru June seems the best, then end Sep-Nov.; but I'll admit I've been to AB every month and never have lacked subject matter. I favor Yaqui Wells area the most, but I like the little stuff particularly; also Blair Valley surrounds, Mountain Palm Springs (via Indian Valley). Geology at Font's point and Borrego Badlands trails to east, Split Mountain (avoid Ocotillo Wells ORV!), Canyon sin Nombre in the south. All have areas to explore, but 4WD may be desired. There are MANY places to explore! My favorite area in the entire USA!

Wind caves and the slot should be on your list

Not sure about Joshua, but for Borrego, as relbugman notes, 4WD is HIGHLY recommended, especially considering recent precipitation. And true, if you are looking for wildflowers (and it should be a banner year considering the rain) you are probably a bit early.

Live in San Diego with house in Borrego. Previous comments cover the biggest highllights I think. Flowers are definitely starting, but not what they will be! Coyote Creek and the drive to it is also good. Don't miss the visitor center and its garden. I prefer Hellhole Canyon over Palm Canyon -- fewer people and a bit less challenging (I am 79). If you have 4-wheel drive, Font's Point is great. In a different direction, more up towards Ranchita, we also like Culp Valley Campground and trails in that area. You will suffer from "too many options" so don't let decision paralysis ruin your first trip!

I would be worried about flash floods early next week. Be careful if you get back in the canyons..

In Joshua Tree, check out the Cholla Catcus Garden and Keys View. Also ruins at the Wonderland Wash.
