Not a Contrail vs. Contrail

The first two images were taken at 12:16 p.m. and 12:24. Air temp was low 70's. They are of the same not a contrail. The third image is of a contrail taken at 12:57. Could someone explain the difference to me?

Altitude difference (primarily), humidity of the air at the respective altitude, and maybe wind differences.

Looks to me like there are several fading contrails in the first two ???
The third is apparently about 30,000 ft.

Also age
The contrails start out fairly compact, but as the winds move them they spread out and finally disappear.

When I was in high school, I got an education on contrails. The Department of Energy "Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant" was a little less than 20 miles straight east, and among other things the Army and Air Force used it as a target for practice bomb and paratroop runs. The formations often went over the family farm, making their runs west to east, so I got to see very high, high, medium and low altitude contrails with an occasional flight of transports taking paratroops to jump as the aggressors in war games, those came over very low and back then they were often the old twin tail boom C-119 "Flying Boxcar". The boxcars never made contrails that I remember but I have seen pictures of prop planes, esp B-17s at altitude with contrails, often in a spiral from the tips of the props.

Also age br The contrails start out fairly compact... (show quote)

Yes, I did neglect to say how long they existed.
Wind currents reshape them over time.

Could be ice, could be water. It just depends on the temperature and air pressure.

Well, when you get up that high, there's strong wind. Probably the first two were of contrails that had a couple minutes to be spread out by the breezes before you took the shots. I don't think the aliens are looking for you. Yet.

The aliens know where he and the rest of us are.
Their quality control department told them to go kidnap higher grade test subjects on some other planet.

I live under one of the approaches to Los Angeles International Airport, and see multiple contrails on clear days.
The first two are fading contrails, as Joecichjr says.

When you see a number of long lasting "contrails" take a photo and note the time. The next day, take a shot of the same airspace at the same time and see if it matches. Commercial flights at high altitudes are usually close to the same route, time, and altitude. I hope that you will be able to see the sky soon.

As a side bar: Back in the 1950's, a strange event occured. A group of B-36 bombers at Ellstrom air base at Fairbanks AK. started up engines at the same time. The ground level temperature was about 40 below zero. The contrails from the engines created a whiteout that caused cancellation of the mission.

Since this subject is so near and dear to your heart, take a look at Contrails are a problem for aviation – but there could be an easy solution.

Interesting article and there is no mention of "chemtrails".

Because "chemtrails" are a conspiracy theorist thing.
I used to know a guy who was into conspiracy stuff. Especially the "Black Helicopters" idea. I had to show him pictures from Nam and of local police and traffic/news choppers against a bright sky or going over at night, and all of them looked black in the right light no matter what color(s) they were painted.

Contrails all depends on the moisture in the air. Once created, if theye isn't enough moisture in the air, they dissipate.
