I have been taking photographs since 1976. First, using a film SLR, followed by several DSLR cameras and now a mirrorless DSLR. In all these years I have had only one (1) instance where an exposure problem was caused by a malfunction of the camera equipment. All other problems have been caused by the person (sometimes idiot) pushing the shutter button. Over time I began to understand that this was a part of the photographic experience. So, if at any time you get discouraged because your pictures turn out weird, take a deep breath, relax, have a cold one, and think through all the settings you have make to your equipment. Tight lines everyone (oops, wrong hobby).

But then, we all have to learn the hard way that the problem is self-induced. I'm a living example pf this reality.

That’s my story as well, and I’m sticking to it
Cameras are essentially mechanical and do only what the operstor tells it to do. Even in auto there are inputs from the person looking through the viewfinder (or at the display) that can affect the final outcome.

Sorry Dave, I can only attribute the problem to "Human Error"
