You don’t have to transfer files wirelessly. You can connect the SSD drive with a USB cable and the unit has a built in card reader.

The directly connected HD to the RavPower/NewQ via USB is fairly fast, under 5 or 10 minutes depending on card size. The beauty is the hub is also a power bank, so it powers the portable hard drive as it downloads the card. The hub is also only a little larger than a deck of playing cards, so it doesn't take up much space nor would a small portable drive.

The WD My Passport Wireless Pro is also an elegant solution, sized about the same as a hub and portable drive side by side. Too bad they were discontinued.

Both are good solutions and work well for paranoid shooters like me.

Thank you so much for your follow up. I have been on B&H all morning looking at filters and ended up buying them on Amazon because B&H delivery was out 5-6 weeks and I leave for trip on Feb 26.

For an SSD there are better places to buy it, like Newegg. I see in this listing it includes the Gnarbox, which would seem to fit the bill, but it’s only 128gb and while it’s still being sold I’d be wary about support. The Nexto devices are interesting and would work for photos but they’re really designed for video and they’re expensive. You can get a 2TB SSD and the NewQ Filehub for less than half the price.
