This is interesting. Go to suppose.tv and click on the channels/stations you like to watch. It will search and show you how you can get them and how much it will cost. For me, YouTubeTV is the least expensive. If I wanted to cancel cable TV, I'd have to see how much Spectrum would decrease my monthly bill, currently $198. With their combination plans, I might save only $10.

Any opinions on YouTubeTV?

I don't believe YouTubeTV has the History Channel, if you care.

I know Jerry likes the English shows with their humor. I saw a good series on regular free youtube the other day.
It involves another one of my hobbies.
Take a look at "The Detectorist". Its a three season series and is pretty funny.

Yes, that was very good, and it was written by the star. "Simon and Garfunkle" were a couple of funny characters. He got good actors for that series.

Been very happy with youtubeTV. Tried Hulu, but switched back to YT. The main reason for liking YT is the DVR capability and being able to join a show while it's on, but start from the beginning. Most other streaming sites don't have that feature. You have to wait until the show is over before starting from the beginning.

Would Tivo work with that? Could I tell it to record a certain channel at a certain time?

My experience has been very positive so far. I was paying Spectrum over $250 per month for telephone, internet, television, and DVR service. I wanted to maintain all my local channels and PBS as well as ESPN and some of the other cable channels. You Tube TV met all my needs except for NESN. After unbundling all my services, Spectrum quoted me a rate of $80 per month for internet. However, when I took all the stuff back to them, the customer service rep came up with an offer that increased my download speed from 300 to 500 mbps and the upload from 10 to 20 mbps for $45 per month. It is a one year offer and the cost will increase, but I will still be ahead. You Tube TV will cost $65 per month after a 3-month introductory rate of $55. You Tube DVR service can also be used from any television versus having to watch where our DVR was formerly located. I can subscribe to NESN separately for $30 per month if the Red Sox are worth watching. For $110 versus $250 I am a happy camper.

So far, You Tube TV has been flawless. We have 2 smart televisions and an older Visio that connects through an Apple TV. The smart tvs are slightly easier to use. The only issue has been a long learning curve for my wife trying to adapt to the different interface, but she is getting there. I would do it again.

I loved The Detectorists. Funny but I’m that subtle British way.

Not sure about TiVo but you can have YT "record" any show (single or all of a series) and it remains available for 9 months. I don't have TiVo or any other DVR and don't miss a thing.

I had you tube tv for a while when they carried NESN, I was very satisfied with them. Then they dropped NESN
so I went with FUBO which carried NESN. I just received a email from them stating that they are raising rates 14 dollars a month starting in February,They added Bally sports network, which I have no interest in, and its all or nothing with them. So I have canceled my FUBO as of the end of the month and will be going back to you tube, sans NESN.

I like UTube TV a lot, and it’s certainly cheaper than cable. The channel line up varies by location, so plug in your zip code, and you’ll get a list. One neat thing is it can “travel” with you and knows where you are and changes the local channels to that location automatically. You can watch it on TV with a streaming device (or a smart TV) or on your computer or tablet (or both). There are several potential add-ons including enhanced sports and 4K for $20/month more. the DVR function is excellent and unlimited, so no need need for a TIVO unless you want to keep items for quite long periods. Unlike many streaming services, it has local channels. From what I can tell, it’s the best of the streaming services that include local channels. We supplement ours with several premium services such as Hulu, Netflix, etc. and it’s still a fraction of the cost of cable (and no cable boxes required).

Playing around with channels I'd like, it varies between YouTube and Hulu. Naturally, the price keeps rising as I add more channels. The most expensive choice is what I have now - Spectrum, at $118/mo. Of course, if I drop Spectrum, they're not going to reduce the price by $118. Even if they did, I'd be paying $150/mo for Hulu with phone and Internet from Spectrum.

Has anyone dropped cable only from Spectrum and kept the other two? How much did you save?

We were paying $263 a month when on cable. We cut the cable about a year ago, keeping it only for high-speed internet. The bill went down to $93. I have since added Hulu + for $15 which gives me basic Hulu, Disney +, and ESPN +. Also added Paramount + for $11 and Sling for $55. This comes to $174. The reason for picking up Sling was to get NFL and NCAAB games. Since that will end in March, I will drop Sling for April through October and pick it up again in November. That will save $385. I will add MLB for about $60 but that is a one-time payment, not a monthly charge. All this condensed to a monthly charge comes to $148. This is a savings of $115 per month or $1380 a year. The TV now is less convenient since I can't switch between shows like before because programs will often be on different streaming services but so far I feel the change has been worth the bit of aggravation in having to exit one streaming service and finding the content you are looking for on another.

I’ve been using YouTubeTV for about 3 years. I cut the cord during Covid in 2020 after I complained to Optimum about their ridiculous price increases and telling them several times they, “You’re not seeing the handwriting on the wall.”
It has all the basic networks plus sports channels and many other interesting channels. A slight learning curve for older, less technology oriented folks. It costs me $66/month and that includes using it in NY AND Florida.

I use the History Channel app free version which has several restrictions including only latest episodes of Curse of Oak Island one day after airing and some of its offshoot programs, limited episodes of Pawn Stars but does include a new series “Pawn Stars across the US,” or something like that, and limited episodes of American Pickers. I think Oak Island will be ending as I read that they found the treasure. I also have Disney + ($9.99 now) but has Star Wars stuff, Marvel Universe, limited Nat Geo material, Disney stuff for kids and adults (Free in packages with some Internet Providers) and several other paid and free apps. MLB gives you latest games but is still blacking out most local games (like the Mets) and does a lot of trickery with my Dodger games. I’m not renewing that next season.

Any other questions…just ask me.
