I gave up and finally renewed my subscription for $79 bucks for the year. I was forced to do it as they locked me out of all functions. I thought I could use the program without a license and just not receive updates from them.
Guess not.

I dumped Quicken a few years back, since All I do is keep track of my checkbook with it.
I got an open source Program (Check Book) that works just fine.

That's too bad.
It is usually possible to continue using Quicken without renewing the subscription, but you will have to suffer the intrusive ad reminding you to renew, that occupies a significant portion of your screen. Too bad, since renewing rarely brings anything new, and merely continues features that many users don't want or use. Every time someone figures out how to make the ad nag disappear, Quicken alters their software to prevent the fix.
Your other issue, the "You have exceeded the maximum number of datasets. You cannot create a new dataset....." appears to be related to using Quicken's Backup/Restore command. Using Copy/Paste to save a backup copy of your data file and, if needed, restore that backup copy,
instead of using Quicken's Restore command, reportedly prevents this message from reappearing.
Since Quicken was sold by Intuit (to HIG Capital in 2016, who sold it to Aquiline Capital Partners in 2021), the program and its customer service have become less of a user-friendly product owned by a software company, and more of a money-making enterprise owned by an investment company.

I'm still using Quicken 2007......
I've had similar headaches with Quick Books.
Have a look at Countabout. $10 per year...phone app included...I like it.

I find Quicken's customer service vastly improved over several years ago. I've made a number of calls over the past year and I have yet to wait. The fixes have been fast and explained as questioned. Downloads from my accounts all work nicely -that is bank, credit/debit cards and investments. I use Bank of America and the way the bank has now set its connection to Quicken, Quicken is basically another functioning window into my accounts with the bank. There are things that are frustrating at the moment of use but not such that I think about quitting the program
I used quicken from 1998 to 2019, when I bought a new iMac and Q98 would not load, Thats when I dumped it and went open source.

Wish I got your response before I renewed. Anyway, does Check Book allow for bank reconciliation?
Thanks for your response.

Again, wish I hadn't jumped the gun and renewed. Thanks for the tip.

I currently use Quicken 11, which I upgraded via a download rather than buying a CD. After reading the post, I found the CD I burned way back when and made another copy.
