WOW!! How did you get up to ten??!! My eye changes so much, critiques abound! If I can get ten in a year it drops to five. These, a wide body of work is inspiring! I was once asked how many photos I think I’ve taken them how many I liked. Another really great photographer was in earshot and was smiling, having a good idea of what I would say. I said ‘across the life of shooting? At any given time if I like ten it’s a good day’ the photographer overhearing smiled broadly and nodded in agreement. The one asking said ‘well I like ALL of mine!’ So ya? What are they of? A genuine question, what gift are you holding? She beams and says. ‘They are mostly my grandchildren!’ Ooo, I see…

If I get two or three "keepers" a day, I am happy. Sometimes things just fall into place and that number skyrockets. I have learned over the years to be patient; to anticipate light and movement (especially with animal behavior); to envision a shot and sometimes simply be lucky. Although I have found that the more prepared I am, the luckier I seen to be. LOL
The elk shot has been in my head for many years. This fall, the conditions and timing were just right. The Grand Prismatic shot was actually 50 years in the making. When I was young and first saw it, my parents wouldn't let me scramble up the hillside to take the picture. As I grew older, a bad knee prevented that climb. Now, a new knee and an official trail and overlook made it possible. We waited until the conditions were right (morning fog burned off, wind in the right direction, clear sky and time for the hike). I was the only one there who carried a tripod and DSLR up the trail, but in the end I am happy that I did. That shot is hanging in my living room.

I was about 45 miles NW of Minneapolis. Sometimes you don't need to travel far to see some amazing things.
The northern lights are one of my bucket list to get to see. It is just very rare to see them in central Indiana.
I can see why they made your top ten Basil. Well done!
