My passion is sharing what I see so even though I am most interested in birds I do like to take photos of many other things.
Here is a small sample of some of those other things.
This is a Brittle Prickly Pear Cacti, yes we have cacti in the Boreal Forest and they were here long before the first European set foot on the area.

It's called a Milbert's tortoiseshell. One of our butterflys that hibernate to get through the winter. And one of the first to appear each spring.

Emerging Ostrich Fern, at this stage they are known as fiddle heads and they are edible and considered a treat by some.

A Bald Faced Hornet eating a Dragonfly. A Blue Darner to be exact.

Abandoned farm machinery, a Massey Harris combine from the 1950s

Abandoned building just outside of Calgary Alberta. I wish I knew the story behind this building. It is clear it was under construction when abandoned and it must have cost a fortune to even get it to this stage. That's actual copper cladding.

This is what Tent Caterpillars can do to a forest. The black patches on the trunks and branches are thousands of caterpillars, and they can be a lot worse then this.

This is a Calypso Orchid, like most true orchids it has one leaf and one flower per plant and it's native to the Boreal forest. And it is small, only about 6 inches tall and the flower is only slightly bigger then a kernel of corn.

Fantastic set of images!!!
Interesting variety of subjects. Thanks for sharing!
Sakwes, Your display of things rarely or never before seen is fascinating as are the stories/comments for each.
Nice set of photos. As I remember, that Massey Harris combine was one of the first self-propelled combines made.
Great set. If you ever do start shooting birds you'll get hooked. I would love to see some bird images done by you.

You could be right about that. All I know for sure is that this one is a model 26 and the manufactures place shows a date of 1952.
