After retiring from my job as a police detective I took a job as campus police for our local junior college. The college will buy employees computers at college discounted rates and then make automatic deductions from your check over a twelve month period, interest free. Needless to say I am going to take advantage of this policy. What does anyone suggest. I have heard MACs are better for processing pictures but in reading online comparisons they are pretty even or give PC a slight egde in some catagories. I'm not much of a gamer so that PC edge doesn't matter to me at all. I currently own a PC and have PS Elements 10 for PC. Would it even be worth switching to MAC and then reinvesting in programs? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Absolutely a MAC for photos.
I still have my PC for certain applications, but for photos there is no contest.

So that I can better understand what you mean by "processing pictures", can you provide the link to this online comparison you read?
I prefer the MAC. Though running the same program on each will yield the same results. But, iPhoto which is built into the MAC has some great tools for, lightening shadows, darkening highlights, exposure, saturation, redeye, straightening, cropping, etc... I only use photoshop for more extreme repairs, and even then I prefer some of iPhotos tools, so I always start there. I think Apple hardware and software are more stable, and having used each for over 25 years, I've never had to get virus software for my Mac's. Each PC release is a little closer to the MAC. It's like comparing a nice camera to a cheap camera, they both can produce a nice picture. But, one will outlast the other as it's built better and will be more trouble free and last longer. Sorry, just my belief.

Don't ever be sorry for your belief... it makes you sound unsure! :-)
I am sure! I just know there a lot of die hard PC users, that would never consider switching, even to a superior product.
I am absolutly certin that one or the other will meet your needs. Just go with the one that suits you.
I operate with two Imacs, two MacBook Pro's, and one lonley little HP/PC sitting in the corner.
I'm not one to fault individual choices: Sony vs Canon vs Nikon vs brand x-- or Mac vs PC. I work on both: PC at work for financials & Mac at home for photo storage and maintenance. I've edited using both and I personally prefer the Mac. I switched about 18 months ago and have not been sorry.
Okay... so your post is not about processing photos... According to your link, there is no clear winner, and I would have to agree. Good luck with your decision.
I do not think it matters PC or MAC. Your monitor might matter more. You will matter the most. It is the chef, not the pots and pans that make the meal.
Gone all the way.....iPad,MacBook,iPhone and iMac 27" Monitor all work together
best of all no Virus.....

Very simply it really doesn't matter. Mac Vs PC is like Canon Vs Nikon. It's a matter of personal choice. To edit pictures they both use the SAME PROGRAMMES, the computer has nothing to do with it. Now watch the argument start

Sorry but the "no virus" myth regarding Mac's is exactly that. If you run windows programmes on a Mac (which most people do these days) you are still liable to get a virus - FACT!
Since switching to Mac (made for graphics) Products I have had zero problems.....my pc's were always locking up or had a virus.....
