Bahia grass looks awful in winter, but...
I'm from the northeast. I like the green and smell of natural grass. Rye grass seed grows quickly and green. Still a project. Same yard different angle. Deltona florida
We had Bahia...
We sodded over with St. Augustine. (Zoysia is another good grass there.)
Bahia doesn't spread, it is individual grass stalks, which can lead to "bald spots" like in the bottom of the first image.
Rye grass can't tolerate the sun & heat in Florida.
But it grows in the Winter there.
Was a difficult job laying sod? What tools did you use? Thanks

This was MANY YEARS AGO... circa early-80's maybe? (I was a lot younger).
I sprayed the yard with Roundup (this is before all the hubbub);
waited for everything to die;
ordered a couple of pallets of sod (based on square footage);
plopped the sod down, snugging up against the previous pieces (they may have been ≈14"x36"+ strips. Took two arms to carry (support) a hunk of sod so it didn't fall apart transporting it);
watered the heck out of it for a week or three (daily rains helped).
- You'll need a good large sharp blade for trimming the sod where needed.
- Watch for fire ants in the sod.
- I would do it early spring or late fall so the heat/sun doesn't bother the sod as much. St Augustine
loves water. Sandy loam in Florida, no "dirt".....
- Be very careful mowing until the sod "joints" get settled. I don't think I mowed it for maybe 2-3 weeks the first time.
I don't remember how long it took for the joints to become smooth.
Very thorough reply, thanks for taking the time
