Be starting dinner soon and will be asleep by 9PM. It's been many, many years since I discovered the new year will happen even when I am asleep.

OK, two different ways of being older. You go to bed early, I go to bed late, then take a nap during the day.
In fact, if I am reading I often look at the clock and find I am not going to sleep late at night, I am going to sleep almost when I got up while I was still teaching.
It is 44 miles one way to the high school I retired from, and I got up at 4:30 to make it by the first bell at 7:20.
So read until 1-3AM, wake up at the 10AM alarm for my morning meds if not earlier, lunch at 3 or 4PM, dinner 8-9PM, read or watch TV. I record three one hour news shows and all my favorite shows and with the remote+fast-forward I can finish them quickly, depends on if the news is worth watching and how much gets repeated by all three hosts. Every so often I forget I have the remote in my hand and watch a commercial or two - some of them are better made than 90%+ of the shows. I lean to things like the NCIS, FBI, CSI, Blue Bloods etc. An occasional movie, often one my wife is watching in the other room(together time-I make the popcorn), documentaries and the odd holday special here and there. Some of those are very odd.
Couple of good ones Jack. I'm with you, will turn in about 11:00pm. Happy new Year to you!

My most important reason to stay up is, so I can dodge all the bullets and buckshot falling out of the sky. Well that and pet/cuddle the two little dogs to calm them down.
A lot of fools around here think the best way to make noise for the New Year is shooting into the air, or sometimes level if they are too drunk to remember which way is up.
Here where I live most fireworks are illegal or licensed displays only, so they substitute their guns.
I would rather the idiots have fireworks. Of course a lot of them do have them anyway, gotta keep those firework vendors in Tijuana in business. We are having rain and showers off and on, so this is the quietest New Year's Eve I can remember in a long time - so far!!! I do hope the folks over on the reservation are having a big rain dance tonight.
Where I grew up in Western Kentucky it was illegal to sell fireworks, but if you had them, there were no laws about setting them off.
And it was less than a one-hour drive to a town in SW Missouri where they had fireworks stands the size of supermarkets. You could get anything short of a Tactical Nuke, and maybe that if you knew the right people.
I got my ammo for my homemade muzzle-loading cannon there. 6" piece of iron pipe for a barrel, scrap lumber to make the carriage and large jar lids for the wheels. Smooth pebbles from the creek for cannonballs and firecrackers for the propellant charge. The stock pond was about 25 yards across and 50 yards from the backyard of the farm house. I could hit it a fair % of my shots.
