A random thought occurred to me that doesn't appear to be materializing. I figured with all of us getting new cameras for Christmas that there would be a plethora of used ones showing up in the classifieds. After almost a week my idea appears to be just another brain worm that's gone away.

I never sell a camera when I buy a new one. I suspect most of that way. When I get a new camera I keep the other one as a backup or pass it to my grandkids. Some people will sell older cameras for money to help buy the new one, I do not.

From the lists frequently posted of cameras owned, most here hang on to every camera, lens and accessory that they have ever owned.
Perhaps the acquisition of new gear is overstated.

Ok, call me a hoarder, you can't sell an old camera for much and if it still works, I keep it, or pass it to a grandkid.
Probably why I still have my D200. It must be a sickness yet to be diagnosed. How about camera retention disorder?
That must be it. CRD. Let’s pray for a cure.
I don't have any children, I gave mine to a neighbor.

Most folks want to make sure the new guy is working out well before they try to sell the old guy.
And, a lot of folks hold on to the old one for back up or just to keep an old friend around a while longer.
I sometimes mount my 70-200 on one camera and the 200-600 on the other camera and carry both into Florida's wetlands so I have a full range of options.
There is no rhyme or reason to a time line to sell used equipment.

Not necessarily.
It takes a lot for me to part with a camera. I've actually bought film-camera replacements on eBay for cameras I had years ago. You might see more cameras for sale in a few months.
You might want to ask how many people here got new cameras within a certain time period.

Eventually that camera will be worth more.

Bob, I know what you mean. Unfortunately, I got G.A.S. a couple of years ago and have been buying and hoarding Nikon glass of all shapes, sizes and vintage. I have thinned the herd a couple of times. Giving away cameras, lenses, flashes, selling the higher end stuff, donating some, surprising a few random folks on UHH with a package, who otherwise couldn't afford a new lens.
The batch in the photo below will be traded in towards a new Z Lens(es), as I just purchased a Nikon Z9. However, my Nikon D850 remains a favorite in the stable, so the good F glass (not shown) will remain locked up.
There are some real nice vintage and unique pieces in these well protected containers.
