Two cousins walking together along a beach path. This is an opportunity shot taken by my wife using an iPhone. I did some minor editing to remove an individual walking some 20-30 yards ahead of the subjects.
Love the image but not the composition. Suggest lowering yourself to the subject’s level.
I don't disagree. What was taken was what I had to work with.
Leave as is. it makes the picture speaks.
I like the theme of the image. The composition isn't great but it doesn't detract much. I'm sure your wife wanted to capture the moment and was not concerned with the rules of composition. She certainly did that.

Tell your wife to keep taking photos. The more she takes the more she'll find photos that she enjoys. As I go back to the photos I took of my children, I'm amazed at the enjoyment they provide. I caught some really nice ones, but even those I used to think of as not so good provide me with enjoyment today.

I agree that would be a better perspective but, as he stated, he didn’t take the photo.
