It sat on the waters edge for at least a half hour, then decided to have a look in the water.
Within a minute it had landed the fish.
It tried to swallow it, but after several minutes gave up and headed back to the water for a smaller one.

Excellent shots, I had one of these Night Herons on my boat in Rockport, TX this past summer and was unable to identify it at the time. I have a Snowy Egret and a Blue Heron that share my swim platform for fishing, and several Red Head ducks that shelter in the hull overhang. It's quite the meeting place. Thanks for you post.
