He probably figured that since our 5 most recent Presidents, as well as the vast majority of the party leaders in Congress, have found success as professional liars, why not him.

So here's a whataboutism for ya!! Aka - the other side of the coin. Perhaps Santos was taking a lead from Biden, thinking he could get away with it. From The Washington Post: “Biden’s first run for the presidency more than three decades ago exploded in a controversy over plagiarism. Without credit, Biden’s stump speech included lines lifted from a speech given by Neil Kinnock, then leader of the British Labour Party.”

“Biden tried to hang on, but then reporters discovered he has flunked a class in a law school for submitting a paper that borrowed heavily from another law review article without proper citation. The c**p de grace came when Newsweek reported that Biden had made false or exaggerated claims about his law school record during a discussion months earlier with v**ers in New Hampshire…”

I pretty much have taken the approach that most politicians are professional liars, but Santos is pretty extreme:
1. He claimed his maternal grandparents were Jews in the Holocaust – not Jewish and living in Brazil during World War II
2. He graduated from Baruch College with a BA in economics & finance – he has a high school equivalency cert.
3. He has an MBA from NYU – nope.
4. His mother was a finance executive working at the World Trade Center – actually was a home health care worker.
5. Advised his family was wealthy – could afford to pay for his Mother’s funeral – priest raised money & gave it to Santos.
6. Was charged with passing bad checks in Brazil.
7. Founded Friends of Pets United and collected funds – no such charity exists.
8. Claimed he worked as a financier and wealth advisor at Citicorp and Goldman Sachs – neither institution has any record of his employ.
Simply, he should not be allowed to be seated in Congress.

It sounds like Santos and Biden are both pathological liars. I believe habitual lying is a sickness when one lies about trivial things or makes up stories for no apparent reason. I've known people like that. One guy I worked with in the 1960's was a pathological liar and he had a most fitting last name which was Bull.
