1st photo: What a pleasant surprise right after breakfast, looking up, saying wow & taking photos.
The Brown haze you see is a result of the farmers burning their harvested sugarcane. A major cash crop in Egypt. While there I forgot to ask for the types of boats used throughout the Nile Valley. So, I just looked them up --
They are called "Feluccas" and are used throughout the eastern Mediterranean

Hope you enjoy the photos

Happy New Year

how incredibly fortunate to encounter the hot air balloons!--or was it part of a plan?

I especially like the first one. The balloons make me wish I was there. Also the feluccas. Interesting boats.

Plans?
Oh my goodness - For us all plans ended at Breakfast - Never associated the Nile River with Hot Air Balloons

Thanks all for stopping by & providing all the kind words.
The tour guide's plans that day the 1st photo was taken were to get us behind those mountains in the balloon photo where the valley of the Kings & Queens lay. We saw no bridge. Per the guide: There is a bridge south of Luxor, it's a 20-plus mile-long bus ride out of our way over badly crowded roads.
His explanation of why: was simply "that's how things are done in Egypt"
A few rich landowners offered bribes to the right people to gain Government favor.
It is a nice bridge!!
