The major reason we decided to visit San Diego was its wonderful zoo system (main zoo and Safari Park). We spent a day at the zoo in Balboa Park and another day in the Safari Park. The good news was the time of year and relatively cool temperatures made the parks uncrowded. The bad news was that the 30 degree F nights and 50+ degree days made the animals reluctant to come out of their burrows, nest, etc.

This set is composed of shots from the tram that circles the main areas of the zoo to produce an overview. The shots are crops, many taken while moving.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Hi Mike, you’re inspiring me to get to a zoo soon to photograph these incredible animals. The Living Desert in Palm Desert has some angles without fences for cheetahs and mountain goats.

Thanks, Craig, the San Diego Zo had so much more than two old people could take in.

Thanks, Joe, it was in the low 50s and they were enjoying the sun.

I've always heard what a great zoo that is. Looks like there's a lot to see and photograph.
