On a trip to the West Desert few weeks ago, on a very cold, windy overcast day with harsh light, came upon this Golden Eagle holding on to a power pole for dear life. Was surprised he let me get this close for photos although both of us were blowing around like rags. Not the best photos and they are very heavy crops, but, what the heck!!

Beautiful shots under trying conditions. IMO the Golden Eagle is a true raptor while the Bald Eagle is a glorified vulture. A carrion eater, as Ben Franklin pointed out, and a thief that prefers to steal pray from others rather than hunting for itself.

Many thanks Jack...have read old Ben's comment on a few occasions. He was lobbying for the wild turkey to be our national symbol when he made this observation. The ole turkey just didn't have a regal bearing and was rejected as a candidate.

Beautifully done, Jim. Great detail in the download. He has a windswept, hanging on look.
