He named it "George," well, "Georgium Sidus," after King George. In other words, the original name was "George." That doesn't sound very scientific, so a German astronomer suggested the name be changed to something from classical mythology. "Uranus" might not have been the best choice. At least we're pronouncing it differently now.
Hercules would have avoided the whole problem.
