I was surprised to hear Neal DeGrasse Tyson explain how Uranus got its original name. Uranus was discovered by an Englishman, and he named it... Oh, well, take a guess.

Oooh! Good guess, but, no.

He named it "George," well, "Georgium Sidus," after King George. In other words, the original name was "George." That doesn't sound very scientific, so a German astronomer suggested the name be changed to something from classical mythology. "Uranus" might not have been the best choice. At least we're pronouncing it differently now.

Hercules would have avoided the whole problem.

Everything is a problem for some people. : )

I think the problem was not using mythology to pick a name.

Well, I didn't want to mention that, but...

I bet that billboard made some people avoid that store.

Reminds me of a Treky (Star Trek) joke. What are Klingons? They are nasty little buggers that hang around Uranus.

Actually Jerry, I cannot speak for the rest of those on this thread.
But I for one, would prefer not to discuss the original name of Uranus!!

Jerryc41, reminded me of the Blue Collar skit. Uranus is mentioned at about the 4 minute mark.
