Adapter Nikon 28 300 f3.5g lens to Sony a7r iva

Tech told me that most adapters between Sony ary iva and Nikon 28 300 f3.5 g lens would not work well. Said there was a new monster adapter that might be better . Also said I ha til Feb to return if I was not happy. I suspected problem would be in auto focusing and he said yes. I will test over next few weeks but wanted to know if anyone had any experience. Sony does have not too expensive z lens 28. 3oo or so (can't remember exactly right now and maybe I should just get my $$ back from pricey monster adapter and put it toward future new lens. Any comments are appreciated.

I use the device below. AF is dependable and "prompt but not instantaneous". All other features are 100%. Lenses are G-type, 28-300, 24-120, 24-85, 105/2.8, and Tamron 45/1.8. My SOP is AF-S and BBF. Dont care about basketball or BIFs.
Yes indeed, I always use AF-S and NOT AF-C. The technical explanation for it is "because I care, and care deeply".
FWIW, I use several a7xx, none newer than the a7mk3.

I just reread your post and paid added attention to your final remark. Are you using an expensive adapter to adapt just one lens ?!? Notice that I listed 5 lenses in use on my adapter. That justifies the $$. If youre only getting one lens onto a pricey adapter then it might be better to return the adapter, sell that lens, and put both amounts toward a proper FE mount lens with uncompromised compatibility.
