Very informative…thank you. But I have a question: What’s the trick to opening the bags on the roll in the produce department? I’ve been reprimanded for licking my fingers.😳
Once you tear it off the roll, it's your bag and your fingers. Who's doing the reprimanding. If it bothers you, put the bag between your palms and rub. That should open them. I prefer licking my fingers too.

Put the top edge of the bag between your two hands and rub back and forth, that's what the produce department workers do.

If the reprimands weren’t coming from my wife it wouldn’t bother me at all😊

I'm afraid it takes more than that. Moistening my fingers works, but I'm not going to do that in the supermarket.
The cashiers in the supermarket moisten their fingers frequently in order to handle paper money, particularly when they come across a bundle of new bills. Sometimes they use a wet sponge and sometimes they use a container of sticky stuff that is sold for just that purpose. It makes your fingers stick slightly to surfaces, not enough to be really sticky, but enough so they don't slip. We used to use that at the farm register. Don't recall the name of the stuff.
