Nikon Z7 ii question

Camera doesn’t switch between viewfinder and LCD when I move my eye away. I’ve checked all the settings and have it set to AUTO. Also reviewed my second-party guide to the camera in the hopes of discovering a missing setting, with no joy even after I’ve pressed a few buttons (partial shutter release, picture review, i, menu, joysticks).

Any thoughts to what I’ve missed?

Its not a "setting". Its just a button on the left face of the EVF hump. It bears the icon of a monitor screen. Its very easy to accidentally bump that button during normal handling.

Thanks. Understood, but I’ve been through every combination, but once it sets to viewfinder it doesn’t reset.

See previous response…cleaning viewfinder did the trick.

The eye sensor is crappy on the Z6/Z7 model line. There is some chatter on line about this issue. It’s systemic. You can try cleaning it.

I just set mine for “viewfinder” and manually press the little button on the side to toggle it to LCD. It’s less frustrating that way.

Mine does the same on occasion. It sometimes fails to detect when the eye is on the viewfinder and when off. I'd just cycle the camera on and off to re-set it. It's an anoying problem that Nikon can hopfully correct with a firmware update at some point.

I have the 711 as well and the simple answer is to upgrade the firmware. This problem was corrected early on.

When I got the Z6 I purchased and fitted a rubber eye cup that is always kept on.

In addition, within a very short time I learnt that the button on the left had too many 'choices' and fortunately Nikon gives the option in the menu to block choices you did not want. My button now has only two.

Working regularly in temps in the 30s and humidity 85% upwards my head, face and hands are dripping in sweat and then there's the dust. I have never had any problem with the eye sensor, it gets cleaned occasionally but I believe it's the rubber eyecup that makes mine so reliable.

I like the roller dogs from the 711.
Their pizza is usually pretty stale.

Yes I didn't specifically say, but I have mine setup for only two choices, toggling between viewfinder and LCD.
