Firefox v108 and the tabs (on top, or not...)

FYI - Maybe save some people a headache.

I updated Firefox to v108 and on the desktop the tabs in Firefox are back on the bottom.
I updated Firefox on the laptop and the tabs remained on top, where I like them.
WTH?????

EVIDENTLY, since the fix for earlier versions of Firefox to get the tabs on top was a line addition to userChrome.css, which under v108 screws things up and puts them back on the bottom (covered by the viewing window.). I do NOT remember what that line was...
The laptop did not have the userChrome.css file installed (I never got around to doing it as Firefox worked fine, tabs on top).
The userChrome.css on the desktop was under:
C:\users\<my username>\AppData\Local\Firefox\Profiles\<mainprofile>
C:\users\<my username>\AppData\Roaming\Firefox\Profiles\<mainprofile>
(You can use Explorer to find the occurrences of userChrome.css under C:\users\<username>\AppData)

SO, if the laptop didn't NEED the userChrome.css file to have the tabs on top, I went into the proper AppData directories on the desktop and renamed the userChrome.css files to FF(old)userChrome.css. (I didn't want to delete it JUST in case.) I restarted Firefox and wallah, the tabs are back on top!

I'll probably delete the FF(old)userChrome.css files in a while....

So, if your tabs in Firefox are now on the bottom again with v108, consider renaming the userChrome.css file in AppData (before you start Firefox) to see if that fixes the problem. If not, you can always put the name back to what it was.

If your Firefox is working the way you want it to work, just ignore this.

Lucky you. You may not have modified the userChrome.css file, or you don't have the file. My Win 11 laptop does not have the file. I had to download and modify the .css file (year+ ago?) on two Windows boxes running Win 7 to get the tabs on top.
Subsequent mods they made may have put the tabs on top for default, transparent to the user, but something they did in v108 conflicts with the change made in the .css file to that.

I'm just glad it's back to "normal".....

(I'm probably not the only one who implemented the userChrome.css fix at the time.)

I have Firefox version v108.1.2 and the tabs are on the bottom where I keep them on an HP laptop with Win11 that was on it when I bought it. However, I attempted to move the tabs to the right side, the left side and the top but it doesn't seem to what to move. I have always been able to move them in previous versions of Windows. Is this something new with Win11?

Not sure if it's 11 or Firefox... I'll guess Firefox because on the 7 box they were at the top until I updated to v108. Then they moved to the bottom. Something is different in v108.
My tabs came up on the top when I installed Firefox on the new Win 11 laptop, without the css file. So I never thought to install the css file on the 11 box. I like the tabs on top, so I was good. I never pursued moving them.

Excellent.

I guess you didn't download/add the userChrome.css file to fix older versions where they were on the bottom.
