Great article. A guy in our neighborhood had two of them. I guess one to drive while the other was in the shop.

Tommy's 1952 MG TD in Car Talk
nothing more to say .. !
Funny .. the latest Hemmings mag has a long article on a 1951 rebuild.
It doesn’t touch on the drive experience that article does.
I thought your analysis of the '52 TD was hilarious!!! It DID bring back so many, many memories, as I had two MG's.
My first one was a 1953TD MK II. And my second MG was a 1955TF 1500. Yes, they were "tin cans" as the Brits would call them, BUT, at that time, we were young and invincible!!!!!! And, oh G-D, how I wish I had either one of them now!!!!
I enjoyed my 52MGTD for many years after I restored it. When I finally sold it I was stunned when the buyer told me he was buying it for a dealer in Germany for resale at 1.5 times what I asking for it. They liked the US models for their left hand steering. I googled the dealer's web site several times and he did not have it for very long.

I had never heard that before!
Soooo true

Or smoke poured from under the dash. Why do the British wear driving gloves? So they can pull the burning wiring harness from under the dash (ask me how I know). But despite their reliability issues, Lotuses were very cool automobiles. RIP Colin Chapman.
He was one of the best.
I can also still see the looks on gas station attendant's faces (remember them?) when
they discovered there was a gas tank on each side

Truly hysterical! I owned a 1973 Lotus Europa John Player Special which had its own set of British issues. Most notably was the Lucas electric system. You never knew what would happen when you flipped a switch. For example the light switch often turned the windshield wipers on.
Lucas the prince of darkness. Was what a tee shirt I had years ago stated. Lol.

I have posted this photo before, but for the sake of those on this thread who may not have seen it, I will again.
It is self explanatory, especially for those who have required gloves to stop the problem!
