Well, it has been a very busy few days back and I have not worked very many photos as of yet.
From what I understand it has been warm north, so not as many birds have gone south to Bosque del Apache yet. There were birds, just not as many and the fields had not been flooded with water by the park yet, so the birds were farther away than normal. Oh well. I have some nice photos. These are just some cranes. No special light or pan blur, but a nice crane photo...
I really tried to get them taking off and running across the water. I have lots of photos to look at and I'm hoping I will have some better than these where I got just the last part before take off. It was hard to not have another bird in front or behind making it just look messy.
I really tried to get the take off where they are running in the water...

I got the very tail end of it.

The left is a Greater Sandhill Crane the right is a lesser Sand Hill Crane. A baby or young crane would not have red on the head.

I think they have very pretty feathers.

Impressive photos of impressive birds. I don't think your images look messy.
Nice work Beth. Getting better with your bird photography.
Don
Very nice, and so in focus. . . .
You did very well Photolady! It looks like your workshop prepared you well for this trip!
Did you decide to stay in Socorro?
Beautiful captures, both the cranes and milkweed.
These are marvelous creatures. IMHO, the final image of the single bird is your best because it fills more of the frame, captures a striking wing position, and the background does not compete too badly. I would crop it a little more before hanging it on the wall. As with most bird photography, you can take hundreds of shots to get the one keeper.

I was there for 6 days in Socorro. I stayed at Econolodge. If my husband came along we would bring our camper, plus it was below freezing at night. Beware, Econolodge was a nice enough place, but if you book through like Priceline, they may try and charge you more for “taxes” they say Priceline did not cover…. I called Priceline, they called Econolodge and guess what, the extra was taken off my CC! I think they or the front desk guy was trying get away with a little extra…….

Well, seems if there is a bird in the post it gets moved to birds….. glad you liked the milkweed also!

These are not quite sharp enough to blow up. They were just a bit too far away….thank you however and I’m glad you liked them! I only have 7,000 more to look at. That high speed burst really gives you a lot of images!!!🤨

Hi Beth, Looking forward to seeing more. I am curious whether they had the furtherest north loop open. Seems to me that is where the best corn fields are to get the birds cranes and snow geese landing. I am also curious whether there was water in the pond on the west side of the entrance road, coming from Soccoro, great for morning flyouts. When I was there last, both of these areas were were closed. When the conditions at Bosque are like this, I also like to go pu north of Soccoro to the Ladd S. Gordon wildlife complex, typically a bcc of cranes there as well. Lots of pro photographers take groups there this time of the year, I am curious who you went with and I hope they were helpful guides. Again, looking forward to seeing more.
