Going on a trip and we want to take 2 850s and 2 telephotos plus a few smaller lenses. Really want to carry the gear on.

Suggestions from those who travel a lot? Looked at Pelican. Any other thoughts?

I like the SKB case that I bought from B&H. It's been to Antarctica, Alaska and Yosemite from Raleigh, NC.

Depends on how long your telephotos are. It also depends on whether or not you are traveling domestically (US airlines are a little more lenient) or internationally.
I carry one Canon R5 with battery grip (comparable to your 850), a 600 mm f/4.0, spare batteries and chargers, and several teleconverters in a Pelican 1535. Weighs in at 22.0-23.0#-right at the limit.
I also use an under-the-seat carry on (Travelpro Maxlite) that is legal on all US airlines and all of the international airlines I have traveled on. It has been a game changer for me. I pack another Canon R body, a 100-500 mm zoom, a macro lens, more batteries, a laptop, phone, billfold, passport, and odds and ends. It completely replaces all other "carry" items and fits under the seat in front of you. You carry it strapped to the handle of the Pelican.
I also use the Pelican when I am on a boat while traveling. It provides secure, floating, water proof storage while I am in a boat. I have been in some boats where I used it as seat also.

Anyway, that is my set up. My wife carries about the same thing minus the 600 telephoto lens.

Haha, as a retired police officer, the title of your post about the best case for two bodies … well, let’s say camera bodies were not top of my mind.

That said, I’ve used Think Tank bags for carryon, and other cases for checked baggage. I used the large Pelican for checked since testing revealed not even the most aggressive baggage loader can damage it in any significant way.

I have 3 pelican cases and highly recommend them. Especially if there is any chance you may have to check one as I had to very reluctantly on a recent flight. Also make sure you have locks for any hard case. Safe travels.

I once had a plastic case with rollers I bought from Walmart. It was heavy duty and I could sit on it without problems. Unfortunately, it was not baggage handler proof. When I landed in Hawaii one wheel was missing and the bottom cracked open and it was wrapped in duct tape to keep everything inside. Fortunately there were no cameras or lens inside, only tripods, accessories, etc.

Spend the extra money and get a quality case.

I love my Pelican like case. Now having said that, especially boarding an aircraft, I would use a camera backpack (SOP-always). It not only makes it easy to get to and from the airport. It also carries a tripod, ancillary items and works as a counterweight. I use ThinkTank.

SKB Cases iSeries 3i-2011-7 Case with Think Tank Designed Zippered, Black (3i-2011-7DZ), purchased from Amazon protected my gear on its flight from Alaska to New York City then onto other destinations. 1 was a carry on; 1 was checked luggage. They both were easy to travel with and protected my gear flawlessly.
Once at my destination the inner backpack also worked flawlessly and was very convenient. I highly recommend this tried and proven case!
TSA approved locks worked well with it. Also having a KTN (known traveler number) was beneficial.

I found that big I take my gear to a store I win, other wise it's a gamble and you never know if it was the best choice. The dealer is several hours from me.

We have some funny terms in photography. "Best travel case for 2 bodies." Steamer trunk. Rolled up rug. Trunk of a stolen car.

I have the smallest of the Airport Think Tanks and love it. Purchased it for a Costa Rico trip. It is on wheels, fits under the seat or up in the overhead compartment of all the flights we took into Costa Rico last spring. I can fit my R6 with 100-500 mm RF lens with hood reversed and the R7 with 600 mm f11 lens with hood reversed and lens at shortest length (which isn't very short). Also can fit in a Canon 24 -105 RF L lens and 1.5 teleconverter and lots of stuff in the inside and outside pockets. It is a tight fit but doable. You just have to reconfigure the inserts to fit your gear. The casters roll easily on concrete as well as gravel and up and down airport ramps. Loaded as described it is heavy to pick up and load into an overhead compartment. I also use this set up at home to keep all my gear together in the car and protected when traveling to local areas. Priced low 200.00s.
