Point of clarification, the 700 or so pictures will be spread across four photo albums. Each person will get two albums. One with pictures of their party, and the other with pictures of the slide show created for them.

As it is not my life nor events, I would not want to tell the OP not do do what he wants. As he mentioned a slide show, I suspect it is not just about the event but a “life milestones” in review as well But, something that long may not get looked at as much as something shorter.

What I really like about photo books is that it is easy, as has been pointed out, to put in notes and captions. Consider adding names of whom are in the photos, what the event was if not the surprise party (these two spring chickens are not getting younger!) and context. The annotated books will mean more in the long run.

Overall, we have had much more fun, and they have been enjoyed more than a traditional photo album

Yes, consider that in future years grandchildren and great grandchildren will be looking at the photos and without some annotation they won't know who the people in the pictures were or where they were shot. I was fortunate that my grandmother left me nearly 100 years worth of family photos and she was great about annotation who, when and where on the backs of the prints.

Hello fellow Hoggers,

Last summer (2021), I was the photographer at surprise birthday parties for my sister and brother in law (yes, two separate parties and they were shocked!). Between the pictures I took and the slide shows shown during the parties, there are about 700 pictures I want to print.

Who does a better job of photo printing; Amazon or Costco?

Or should I not use either of them and "spend some more money"?

TIA

700! You didn't specify whether digital or film. I will assume digital. If so, you can buy just about any good office printer and some 8.5 X 11 photo paper and come out way ahead on cost. And if you want smaller prints, combine as many as will fit on the full size paper and separate later. I'm assuming you have software capable of grouping several photos together.

I Have used MPIX at mpix.com to print my photos for many years and the quality is phenomenal. I have done documentary, wedding, birthday, family, residence for sale, vacation, and more photos. I would recommend MPIX most any kind of printing.

Thanks to all for suggestions. I use Merriman pro for my enlargement

Thanks.

I've culled and don't want to remove any more pics as there were milestone birthdays (75th and 80th). The printed pics would be put in photo albums. Photobook would be expensive.

Photobooks are not expensive and photo albums are not cheap. And there should be no more post-cull pix than from two large weddings. 700 is just ridiculous.

None of the recipients wants 350 prints per event. Any species that lays 700 or even 350 eggs is expecting at least a 95% predation rate.

Photo books are pretty inexpensive. I would seriously consider them. You can add whatever text you want, have different size for the more important photos, and it is a much more professional product.

But 700 images does seem like a bit overkill. I am sure that you can get that down to a manageable number.

I think 700 will lose the viewer. 20 or maybe up to 50.
For the full 700 buy a digital photo picture frame

I used to print originally for albums and then for scrapbooks. Of course, my intent was to always include who, what, when, where, etc, but often didn't include that info. Those without info will go into a bonfire after "I am dead, dead and gone....." I now intend to make photo books but haven't started yet. All that being said, there are sites online that offer unlimited free prints, only having to pay for shipping. I got about 200 from Shutterfly recently and was very happy with them. I will eventually do some books, but at 72, I need to get started!!! I will say I also have a digital photo frame and LOVE it. We e-mail photos to it and it runs continuously. Whatever you decide, enjoy the pics!!! Lo
