Bump! Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks
Paul

I got an invitation from Phillyshutterclub, and they had all necessary docs signed
I just got photos done, did post processing and emailed the models. I have in writing that they can use wherever they want but give credits to me as photographer.

You can see them in my instagram account @sastrykarra.

Hi Paul,
I shoot Models from Model Mayhem and I offer prints or all files I have post processed from the shoot. On my MODEL Release, I state quite clearly the model can use the files for any purpose to further her career. I still retain all rights to do any manipulation or use the photos as I see fit. Most models prefer the digital files, which I load into a Drop Box folder, from which they can download the photos. The folder is available for a set amount of time, then deleted. Many photographers will wince at my giving those rights to the model I am sure.

If you would like to take a look at my work, here is my MM # 1388481.

Best of luck in your endeavors.

Daniel

Hi Dan

Just checked out you MM profile and pics. Very nice and very helpful to me. If it's ok with you, I just might edit my profile based on yours (not copy it verbatim)

Some of your images are pretty graphic which is surprising. I'm not interested in shooting

this style, and have no issues with your pics, i'm just surprised that it's allowed on MM.

Thanks again!
Paul

Hi David,

I totally agree with your sentiments, and you're not being overly cautious. Thanks to the people who have participated so far, I found a model release and printed it out. I told my friend that if her goddaughter wants to shoot with me, i'd be happy to meet her parents before hand. And I will also suggest having a parent/guardian accompany us if/when we shoot.

I'm thinking that we can possibly shoot in her studio where she studies or I can rent a dance studio for a very reasonable price. BUT......I know me, I tend to overthink things and get overwhelmed so I will take things slowly, one step at a time. I just need to find things out before the shoot so i'm prepared. Such as is the studio well lit? Should I bring my flash unit/umbrella? Does the studio have fluorescent lights overhead; need to check and adjust my white balance; all valid questions (i think, which can be simply answered by checking the space out beforehand!

Thank you all again, this is very helpful.

best,
Paul

Obviously you have already given this much thought. And you already realize you can never have "too much" light for high speed photography indoors. Buy studio lights when they are on sale. You can often find 200-400 watt LED lights new for under $300. if you wait and look. A flood and a spot and then some panels for added adjustments. And, of course strong stands. Since you are basically in a studio, (dance studio) there is no worry about 110v-ac and more controlled than a bunch of flashes. Of course at a performance or recital---flash or even available light will be needed. And then I don't need to say---a fixed focal length appropriate FAST lens would be the best and sharpest. You would then have---say---a 100mm F:1.9 or so to work with if you are "in the audience." As for the model releases----nearly every photo book for events has samples in their volumes. And with the legal points covered you can make your own wording so it is more inviting. Again---my post is to remind about the lighting---particularly about dance photography.----ew

P.S. One more thought-----if available light in a performance or recital---case the place first with your exposure meter---both incident and reflected. My Westons have a "incident" cover cone attachment. Then you can choose your spots to take action shots and make the "F:stop vs shutter speed and ISO" most efficient it can be. Don't rely on your camera to do that "photographic craftsman's job." With your own calculations made before hand you can shoot with confidence in manual.------ew

If they're under 18, be sure to have a release permitting you to shoot from a parent or guardian, plus the model release signed by both the parent and the model.

I checked out several websites offering "free" release forms. They appear to be all the same; they're not really free, it requires a one time payment or a monthly fee. You're able to customize it which is nice but is this legit or are there forms out there that are free?
