Nikon F4...a beast!

I love this camera! It feels great in my hand and there's a knob, lever, button or switch for every action you can take. It's a tactile dream lol. Years and ages ago, I dreamt of an F3 and settled on an FA due to costs. Now, F3's being pretty affordable in the used market, I may get one. I'm busy learning the ways of the F4 for now and am loving it.

My all time favorite and I have had a lot of them from a Fedflash to 4 x 5.

I got it on eBay for about $150. It's quickly become one of my favorite film cameras. Everything works and it's in excellent shape. If you're in the market for one there's tons of them on the bay.

Don't know what year it was but the F3 at the time was very expensive as it was the Nikon flagship. My quick check showed it came out and had a retail price of almost $1200.

When it came out it had the retail price of about $600 in 1980. It then relatively quickly dropped to $460 and then $400 in 1984. After 1985 the price started going up. It was $1300 in 2002. The FA while to me a much lesser camera was very expensive compared to the F3. The price of the 2 are always about the same. However the FA was discontinued before the 90's.

I bought one about three years ago. Loved the camera for all the reasons that you mentioned. Then one sad, sadly, it would not power up. I'm not sure what the actual problem is; but the flimsy plastic pieces in the battery holder broke and I don't think the batteries are making contact the way they should. I've been thinking about replacing the battery grip; but I have the Nikon F3, F100 and F5. I actually prefer any of these cameras to the F4; but I'm sure I'll get it repaired or replaced one of these days just because it is such a marvelous beast and it is the last of the "all button and dials" Nikons.

My favorite is my F5. The dog got caught in the strap, and it fell on him. Now I need a new dog.

The plastic dividers that make the batteries work on the F4 have broken. Until I get a new battery pack (I think that will fix the camera) the F4 sits on a shelf. My wife got me an F5 for Christmas last year. I still want to get the F4 fixed; but that F5 is, in every way, a better camera. I also have the baby brother of the F5 (F100) which has 90 of the functionality of the F5 and a lot less bulk. I love them both and use them both all the time.
