How much to ask for a Nikon D780 that is in mint condition and has 1004 shutter actuations? Just got back from a Nikon holiday in AZ and UT and NV, had both a d780 and d850, feel like the d850 shots were better all around. Am waiting for Nikon to announce their Z8; I am considering unloading the d780 and using its funds to help finance a Z8.

Checking the price range for a used model on mpb.com can be helpful in determining a good price point for a used camera body. KEH is good as well, but they have far fewer cameras for sale.

You might want to check eBay's sold listings on a D780, like yours, to get an idea of price. Good luck.

KEH, MPB, and others will pay you a fraction of what it is worth compared to what you would get if you sold it on your own. Check eBay for sold listings to get an idea of what it is worth in today’s market.

Let me clarify my comment about checking MPB and KEH prices. I certainly don't suggest selling your camera to one of these sites. Their offer would be very low because they want to make $$$. However, checking how much they are selling used D780 bodies will help you establish a realistic price. If you price your camera a little less than their used prices, you will usually be at a good price point to sell here on UHH or other online sites. Ebay will usually net you a little less.

I would Google Nikon D780 and you'll probably get a bunch of ads listing this camera and a price for "excellent"
condition as well as reviews, etc. All the usual suspects: KEH, MPB, B&H, etc will have small advertising ads and you can get a "retail" price for your D780 and click on them to research further.

When you wish to sell your D780, you can place a post on UHH for a percentage less than "retail." You'll get more $ than if you sold to the above buyers and Hoggers can also benefit from a lower price. You also avoid the vigorish from eBay and Paypal!

I have personally transacted a dozen camera, lens and accessory deals here. Smooth transactions every time!

Be well! Ed

Bear in mind that the big resale companies, KEH, MPB, B&H, etc. can command more for their products than can an individual. Those companies offer decades of good reputation, tech support, return privileges, and warranties. I, for one, am very hesitant to be from an unknown individual. Set your expectations accordingly.

I usually look at what KEH and MBP are asking and list for about 75% of their asking price. Without having to maintain a store or website your price should reflect that.

Ebay is a great place to start and probably your best bet. I've purchased a number of lenses and two cameras with great success. Selling on Ebay is easy. Look at other listings to see what price others are selling for and list it at a competitive price based on the condition and use of your camera.

You might also check with Nikon as they have a trade policy on cameras for upgrading. B&H Photo and Adorama both buy used cameras but my guess is you'll get less for it.

Facebook Marketplace is another great place to sell camera gear.

Beware selling on ebay as they take a pretty big chunk of your money in return for the sale.

I Purchase a Used D780 from Ra-Lins a small store in Syracuse, NY, on 11/4/2022 with 3830 clicks for $1,698.99 plus 8% sales tax. I also got original box and packaging. The clerks are very helpful with any questions on any gear no matter where I purchased it from

I don't know where you've heard that but it's false. I sell on Ebay and yes, there is a fee, but it's not a chunk.
