Lots of Eagles at the Dam

There were over 40 eagles at Conowingo Dam today. However, I did not see one large fish - the eagles were fishing the 4” to 6” fish that the gulls eat. Even the fishermen didn’t seem to catch any large ones today. The good news is that the eagles were busier than ever catching many small fish. Since their talons are generally too large to hold onto small fish, many were dropped - but, eagles are smart and many ate the fish in mid-air to avoid the drop. Here’s one sequence (of many) that I captured.

Wow. Superbe. You make me jealous. No such luck here to see that many eagles.

Spectacular shots. I’m happy when I see one eagle. You did those eagles proud. Thanks for posting and setting a high bar for the rest of us.

Wonderful set, Elliott. Your narrative about the eagles settling for small fish that day really made the eagle eating sequence come to life. Especially loved the aerial ballet you captured in the final image. Beautifully done.
