Sounds great. Thank you so very much.

Marvin, when you reply to someone, click "quote reply" as I did here. That makes it easier to know who you are replying to.

If you use a Mac I would suggest photo sweeper. Also if you updated to the newest release of apple software both on iOS and Mac OS it has it built in to the photos app.

I just upgraded to Ventura. I looked for that software but couldn't find it. Could you tell me where it's hiding?

Thanks

Hi. Have you tried a Culling software? Aftershoot is a suggestion for one software.

I need a program that will look at a photograph, and not it’s data , to determine if their are duplicates in my library. After it checks each photo then I need to dispose of them. Can you help ?

I have used Awesome Duplicate Finder on occasion. https://www.duplicate-finder.com/photo.html

I haven't used it for a while, but as I recall it will look for duplicates in one folder. It might look at subfolders but I don't have it on my Mac so I can't try it out. If you have a lot of photos it will take a while, but it will present you with duplicates and similar photos. It includes a similarity index (1-100) so it will handle images and edited copies. It will also pick out similar shots from a burst sequence so you have to watch for that. Duplicates will have a high similarity index. It will show you a photo and a duplicate/similar one side by side with file names. You can delete either image with the program but I would recommend just making a list of duplicates so you can compare them fully later (The thumbnails are not all that large and I don't think you can pixel peep).

I believe it was freeware.

Windows only.

I use Glary utilities, it has a free version and it finds dup files, gives you a list and you delete what you want. It also has a register cleaner , shortcut fixer Temp file cleaner and startup manager. I run these at least once a week. plus a lot more stuff.

I just checked, and I have 491 duplicate images taking up 9.1GB. The thing is, I will sometimes have the same picture in two different folders because they belong in those folders. For example, I tried the picture-a-day a few years ago, and they're all in a separate folder, and they're also in folders where they belong according to topic. Inefficient, I know. I'm going to delete some duplicates now.

One advantage of a database is that you can put the address of the picture in the database in different collections and you don't have to duplicate the file.

I'm down to just 13 duplicates now, rather than 6,000. Deleting them by the folder is faster, when that's possible.

I do the same thing Jerry, but I do it in light room as collections, so not really duplicates. I used to do it like you. I don't even have a raw file with jpeg, as after I upload a jpeg, I delete it and I can always export again if needed.
