I have a 2.5" WD My Passport 1TB external drive. Although the drive spins, no computer will recognize it. I'd like to remove the drive and put another drive in there, but I see no way to open the case. I removed one of the rubber feet, and there are no screws there. I wasn't able to get the blade of a knife between the red metal and the plastic body. I suspect it's glued together, although I've never seen that before. As a last resort, I'll cut it open - just because I don't want to be defeated.

Then I’d at least try a different cable and port or computer before I got out the hack saw if you haven’t already. When you plug it in, does the computer recognize a USB device?

Edit, I see I’m too late

When I opened the case, I saw that the drive spins, and the heads move over the disk and then back to their parking space. I disassembled the whole thing. I'll keep the powerful magnets and see if I can put another drive into the case - somehow.

You can put another drive of same type into the case I think but that doesn't do you any good because where would you get a drive with built in USB interface without a case and save some money?

As someone mentioned above, this case has no electrical connection. It was built into the drive. It's just an empty box now. I have those connection circuit boards somewhere, so I should be able to install one and then insert a drive.

I save parts when I disassemble things, and I have some of those little circuit boards.
