My first car was a 1949 4-door Plymouth Deluxe black. It had a stick shift located on the steering column. It had bench seats which allowed your date to snuggle up. It really was a great car that lasted me through my undergraduate education. I graduated from USC (CAROLINA) in 1961. It was essentially DONE by then. That beauty will always be with me.

Never forget my grandpaw giving me a '48 Plymouth and me asking him if I could trade it to a guy for a '56 Harley 165 motorcycle. And he said ok.

I remember these days. I got my drivers license in a 1954 Plymouth belonging to a friend when I was 14. Also in SC. That was the sweetest driving car I ever drove.

A little Bondo and some paint would help.

My first car was a '48 Dodge. Also built like a tank. Thanks.

Wow, I sure would love to see that rolling down a road near me.

My wife's first car was a '49 Plymouth coupe. We sold it and have regretted it ever since.

Was that the model that you could get with a fluid drive/clutch? The newspaper office manager in my town back in the late 50s had a dark green Plymouth like that one with some sort of fluid clutch. IIRC, he could sit at idle, in gear, without holding the clutch in.

No. My 1949 was a normal 3-speed straight drive.
