The Yeomen Warders of His Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress the Tower of London, and Members of the Sovereign's Body Guard of the Yeoman Guard Extraordinary, popularly known as the Beefeaters, are ceremonial guardians of the Tower of London.

Thanks for viewing.

Very nice set, John! Interesting to note that they have done away with ceremonial weapons.

Sorry John, I think only two of your pictures show a Beefeater.

The others show members of the Scots Guards and Welsh Guards, 2 of the 5 Guards Regiments responsible for providing two battalions for public duties to London District. While the guards are most associated by overseas visitors with ceremony at the London Palaces, they are nevertheless operational infantry battalions, and as such perform all the various roles of infantry.

So, yep, those Heckler and Koch SA80’s are real… and being prodded by those bayonets would tend to ruin your whole weekend. I once witnessed a Japanese tourist walk up to a Coldstream Guardsman on sentry duty at Windsor Castle. I think he thought he was looking at a waxwork or some sort of dummy. Anyway, he was the recipient of a full-throated challenge and on-guard presentation of arms, bayonet point first. Only time I ever saw an adult human being scream, faint, and piss themselves, simultaneously.

Yeah, I thought the weaponry was odd.

Good morning "BB",

You are exactly correct! I just wanted someone else to mention it first.
I make several trips to the UK each year and actually / personally know a couple of the blokes in the images.

All the best to you and yours,

Terry

You identified the Guards regiments by the Leek on the collar of the Welsh guardsmen and the 3x3 placement of buttons on the tunics and the cuffs. The single Scots Guard photo shows the button arrangement on the cuff.
