I don't know about that. With those crossed eyes, he may be staring at the tip of his beak 😛😛😛😛😛
A really awesome shot no matter what he's looking at

Thanks Joe, As I understand raptors have eyesight that is ten greater than humans. So it may have been looking at the next fish in pond far away. If you can see a billboard with a fish from a 100 yards a raptor can see it from 1000 yards.

Ospreys are nasty birds , in san diego , a bunch of them .would grab a fish , land on a perch , started eating the LIVE fish head first , mouth first , you could see the fish moving around , and sometime groaning , while the evil bird would tear them apart . I quit taking pictures of them .

Evil? You call natural behavior evil? Anthropomorphizing is childs play. If you want to really find some evil in the world, look to human behavior, not the natural world.

I sold all my DSLR bodies and some of my fmount lens. This Osprey season I am mirrorless with a Z9

I am fairly new to the bird scene, about two years now, and I shoot a D500 & a 500 PF but would like to reduce the weight and improve my capture rate with a mirrorless camera with improved autofocus and tracking. The Z9 is just too heavy for me at age 78, especially if I have to use the FTZ adapter with my current lens. I use a Panasonic G9 for travel and shot some flamingos in the Venice, Italy lagoon area a few months ago and used a 50-200 f2.8-4 lens with a 1.4 TC so I was shooting at 560mm f5.6 equiv. My shots were soft compared to my friend who was shooting with his D500 & 500PF lens. It took great shots of whales in Iceland but BIF are iffy, even flamingos. Looking to the new Z8 or Z500 ? to come to my rescue or just go to the OM-1 or Canon’s 100-500 & R7. I can’t believe this all started with me getting a great Osprey shot I took with a D7100 & a Tamron 100-400mm lens. Congratulations on your new Z9.

That’s a nice image. Great separation of the background, makes it happen!

Use what you feel is comfortable for your age but I and almost 74 and I use a monopod or a tripod with the Z9 and that old heavy 300mm f2.8g/TC1.4 and FTZ because it is a tack sharp and the best bokeh. The difference in weight between D500 and the Z9 is 1 pound and FTZ II 4.5 ounces. I added up the weight of a Z9 with a Zmount TC1.4/400 PF at 5 pounds 10 ounces and your setup D500 with TC 1.4/500 PF at 5 pounds 3 ounces. The difference is 7 ounces and if you are using the D500 battery pack 1 pound 7 ounces it out weights the Z9 combo by 1 pound. Shooting Z9 in crop mode with this combo gives a focal length of 840mm.

Don’t look at me like that. I am not going to (try to) take your fish!

Nice capture RedArrow
